Acclimation

Miracle Aquatics - Coral Acclimation & Care Guide

We want your new corals to have the best possible start in your reef. Following these simple steps can help reduce stress and protect your aquarium.

Acclimating Your Coral

1. Carefully remove the coral from the shipping bag and place it in a clean container.

2. Add some water from your aquarium until the coral is completely submerged.

3. Gently use a turkey baster to blow away any loose debris or unwanted hitchhikers.

4. Inspect the coral carefully before placing it into your aquarium.

5. Start your new coral lower in the tank or on a frag rack and gradually adjust it to your aquarium's lighting.

Dipping Your Coral

We recommend inspecting and dipping new corals as part of good reef-keeping practices.

However, corals that have just been shipped may already be stressed. If a coral appears particularly stressed after shipping, allowing it time to recover in a separate quarantine or holding system before dipping may help avoid additional stress.

Always follow the coral dip manufacturer's instructions carefully. Do not use more dip or extend the dipping time thinking it will provide better protection.

After dipping, rinse the coral in a separate container of clean aquarium water before placing it into your reef or quarantine system.

Quarantine — Best Practice

Whenever possible, we strongly recommend quarantining new corals before introducing them into your main reef.

A separate coral quarantine system allows you to:

- Observe new corals for pests or disease

- Perform multiple inspections and dips when necessary

- Prevent unwanted hitchhikers from entering your display

- Give stressed corals time to recover

Remember

Inspect → Acclimate → Baste → Quarantine/Dip → Rinse → Light Acclimate

A few extra precautions when introducing a new coral can go a long way toward keeping your reef healthy.
